The
classic love triangle is given a different twist
by William Shakespeare in this comedy about
mistaken identity, the quest for and avoidance of
morality, and unrequited love. When a young
woman (Viola) is shipwrecked on the shores of
Illyria, she disguises herself as a boy to gain
employment by the powerful Duke Orsino. He
sends his new "boy servant" to profess
his love to the beautiful grieving Countess
Olivia. Olivia immediately becomes
infatuated with oddly sensitive "young
man" and Viola herself quickly falls madly in
love with her employer, Orsino. Add to this
confusion, Olivia's drunken Uncle, Sir Toby Belch;
his compatriot, the foolish Sir Andrew Aguecheek;
Olivia's highly egotistical manservant, Malvolio;
and an entire collection of servants, fools, and
entertainers; and you come up with one of
Shakespeare's most beloved and hilariously funny
romantic comedies. Come be part of the
madness. |
